Have you ever had life give you a push you didn't ask for? The kind that leaves you frustrated, angry, or wondering why things can't just be easier? I think we've all been there at some point.

I've had a situation recently that's really made me stop and think about how we handle the things life throws at us. Without getting into the details, it's been frustrating, stressful, and at times honestly a little hurtful. But it's also reminded me of some important lessons I've learned over the years.

First of all, sometimes people just suck. Lol. I know that's not the most inspirational thing to say on a Sunday morning, but it's true! Not everyone is going to treat you the way you would treat them. Not everyone is going to share your values, your morals, or your beliefs. And as much as we'd like to think that if we're good to people, they'll be good to us in return, that's not always how life works.

I've always been a people pleaser. I don't like confrontation, I don't like upsetting people, and I certainly don't like rocking the boat. But one thing I've learned, especially over the last few years, is that being a good person doesn't mean you have to let people walk all over you. You can be kind, compassionate, and respectful while still standing up for yourself and what you believe in. And sometimes that means having difficult conversations, making uncomfortable decisions, or simply deciding that you're not going to tolerate certain things anymore.

I've also learned that we have a choice in how much energy we give to situations that are outside our control. Now, I'm not going to pretend that's easy, because it's not. Especially when something feels unfair or personal. It's hard not to let those things consume your thoughts. But at some point, you have to ask yourself whether all that frustration and worry is actually accomplishing anything. Is it changing the situation? Or is it just stealing your peace?

Something else I've been thinking about is how comfortable we can become with the familiar. Even when we know we want something different or something better, it's so easy to keep doing what we've always done. Change takes effort. It can be scary, inconvenient, and sometimes downright exhausting. So… we drag our feet. We tell ourselves we'll get around to it eventually. And then sometimes the universe decides we've waited long enough and gives us a little shove. Or a great big one!

That's kind of where I've found myself lately. What started out as frustration has slowly turned into acceptance, and now, believe it or not, a little appreciation. Because I'm starting to see that something I initially viewed as a problem might actually be pushing me toward something I've been dragging my feet on. Would I have preferred to get there on my own terms and my own timeline? Absolutely! But maybe I needed that push.

When I look back over my life, I can think of so many situations that felt absolutely awful at the time. Relationships, family issues, partnerships, my previous business... there have been plenty of experiences that I wouldn't wish to go through again. And sure, sometimes a little part of me thinks I should have walked away sooner or made different decisions. But if I could go back and change those things, I honestly wouldn't because every single one of those experiences has brought me to where I am today. They've taught me lessons, helped me grow, made me stronger, and shaped the person I've become. And I genuinely believe I'm exactly where I need to be.

I think that's something worth remembering when life isn't going according to plan. We don't always get to choose what happens to us. We can't control how other people behave, and we certainly can't make everyone see things the way we do. But we can choose how we respond. We can stand up for ourselves without compromising who we are. We can stay true to our values, morals, and beliefs, even when doing so isn't the easiest option. And… we can learn to recognize when it's time to stop fighting against something and start looking at where it might be leading us.

So here's something I'd encourage you to think about this week....

Is there something in your life that you've been putting off because staying where you are feels more comfortable? Is there a situation or a person taking up far more of your energy than they deserve? Are you holding on to something simply because it's familiar, even though deep down you know it might be time for a change?

Maybe you don't need to have everything figured out right now. Maybe you just need to trust yourself enough to take the next step, even if it's a hard one.

I don't know that I believe every single thing happens for a reason. I think sometimes life is just messy, unfair, and complicated. But I do believe we can take something valuable from even the hardest experiences.

And sometimes, when we finally stop resisting that unexpected push, we realize it was taking us exactly where we needed to go.

Until next Sunday,

Rachel xo
